NY Times Critics' Pick for John Kelly's TIME NO LINE

"Mr. Kelly packs a lot in about 75 minutes, yet he also knows when to let things breathe and he performs songs to signal both parenthesis and emphasis."

___

"Kelly, still lithe and gorgeous in his sixties, exudes charm and brilliance...As he shares his artistic inspirations and legacy, he crafts new work before our eyes—chalk drawings, evocative movements, duets with his younger self via archival video—simultaneously deconstructing and demonstrating the creative impulse."
- Raven Snook, Time Out New York

___

"This production hit me on a cellular level and I left the theater forever changed by [John Kelly's] ability to raise one’s frequency to the stratosphere."

Gay City News on Charles Ludlam and Conquest of the Universe

Ludlam Celebrated By Those He Loved

David Noh of Gay City News chats with Brian Belovitch and Everett Quinton on the opening of Charles Ludlam's CONQUEST OF THE UNIVERSE OR WHEN QUEENS COLLIDE at La MaMa.

In the article Quinton says:

"“I was asked which of Charles’ plays they should use for this commemoration and I chose this, which was the first one he did when he started the Ridiculous. He would read the newspaper every day and just be inspired by whatever news story caught his fancy and wrote a play from that. And, as Tamberlaine, we have Grant Neale, who was in the original production! I play two roles: Cosroe and Zabina. It’s a big production, we’re excited about the fabulous design of it, and I just want to get it up on its feet! I’m so proud of this cast, which I hand-picked. Of course, it’s very gay: you know, Charles used to say, 'I get down on my knees every day and thank God I’m gay!'

Gay City News Hangs Out With La MaMa's Nicky Paraiso!

Christopher Murray spoke with our Nicky Paraiso about curating The Club, his upcoming annual holiday show,Christmas in Nickyland, and performing in Mike Iveson’s Sorry Robot at PS122's COIL Festival in January:
In the mid-’90s, his Stein-like role was formalized when Paraiso began convening dance and cabaret events for the late Ellen Stewart, La MaMa’s formidable founder. Since then, he’s been seen less behind the piano or wielding a violin or concertina on stage, but has developed an important role as an artistic mentor on the East Fourth Street “Arts Block” in the East Village, where La MaMa is a keystone institution, as well as at many Lower East Side performances spaces.
