TheaterMania on John Kelly's TIME NO LINE

"In Time No Line, Kelly mines 40 years of his own journal writing, combining deeply personal text with movement, video, music, song, and live drawing as he constructs what he calls a "live memoir." The piece theatrically displays aspects of Kelly's early development in dance and visual art, and moves on to depict his experiences within New York's East Village art scene of the 1980s, gender performance, and the AIDS epidemic."

TheaterMania on the return of Belarus Free Theatre

TheaterMania's Zachery Stewart spoke with Natalia Kaliada on Belarus Free Theatre's return to New York with TRASH CUISINE, their first show in English.

"Trash Cuisine has also been informed by the fact that Belarus is the last country in Europe with the death penalty. The show, which was a hit at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, uses various national cuisines in order to explicate local flavors of violence. Kaliada incredulously asks, "If the government shows the people of a particular country that they can kill, why shouldn't I, as a citizen, kill someone if the government says it's OK?"

TheaterMania's Hayley Levitt talks to Irina Brook about Shakespeare's Sister, her career and about bringing her show to New York City.

Seven years ago, Irina Brook was struck by what she self-mockingly labels a "strange puritanical desire to be true to myself." Daughter of the legendary director Peter Brook , her own directorial success seemed imminent. Yet after making a name for herself in Europe, touring the world with well-funded production after well-funded production, Brook decided to take the road less traveled and start her own small theater company (Irina's Dream Theatre ) where she could artistically curate her own body of work.
