Culturebot Talks to Alexandra Beller

La MaMa Moves! 2015 may have ended, but the press keeps coming. Maura Donohue talked to Alexandra Beller about milkdreams which played The Ellen Stewart Theatre from June 11th through the 21st, 2015:

"I knew pretty early on that, done well, the work could offer a sense of transcending traditional time and space values. I always felt extremely blessed out, as if my nervous system had been reset, after watching a run. I was aware that I was asking people to view with fewer expectations, and to slow down some of their habitual ways of responding and defining what they see. Part of my goal was to create a environment in which people could really SEE the miracle of the body as it is, as we all are, rather than the pyrotechnics of what a few of us can do."

CultureBot Interview With Sam Alper of LovePlay/Play Money

Sam Alper's LovePlay/PlayMoney begins performances at The Club @ La MaMa this Friday, February 13th.  Sam spoke with Jerry Lieblich of CultureBot about the shows:

"[LovePlay] was a way for me to explore this tension between intimacy and performance. For instance being an actor and having a sense of self-consciousness in intimate moments – of seeing myself perform the expression of my emotions, even while I really felt those emotions."

CULTUREBOT: James Bayard’s Adventures in Street Art

Culturebot looks at the street art project component of the upcoming La MaMa presentation of I Came to Look for You on Tuesday:

In conjunction with Chiori Miyagawa’s play I Came to Look for You on Tuesday, which will premiere at La Mama, E.T.C. in September 2013, Bayard designed and printed six different poster-sized works. They are going up, guerrilla-style, in four different locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn at roughly two-week intervals all summer. The text on each image is taken from the play or from salons Miyagawa held last spring, where each participant told a personal story of reunion.
