6 Questions: Unique Jenkins

1. How would you describe the show in your own words?

An Eklectic theatrical experience 

2. How is this show different from other shows you've performed in?

Definitely takes the top spot for outside the box shows that I've done. I have done an abstract movement piece before, but it was a 10min piece that had little dialogue. I usually do plays and film where it's not as abstract. So this is definitely fun.

3. What inspiration do you draw from for your character in the show?

I draw from Metropolis and Westworld. Also just observing the world we live in. Westworld definitely gives me this type of Magic Agency vibe. Especially  for my character, where she is going back and fourth with her current self and future self. 

4. What has it been like working with Sean?

It's been truly amazing. His specificity is everything 

5. Do you have a favorite line from the play?

Yes. "God talked to me at breakfast and told me I needed to tell you certain things"

6. What does working at La MaMa mean to you?

It means everything. It's truly a blessing. Recently moved from Los Angeles to continue  to pursue my acting career here in New York, and it's truly been a blessing. Performing at La Mama is a dream come true!!!

Oscar Perry Abello writes about La MaMa's Capital Project to renovate the historic 74 East 4th Street theaters:

"Phase one of the capital campaign involves a $17-million renovation of La MaMa’s building at 74 E. 4th Street, its first permanent home, which Ellen Stewart acquired in 1967. Most of the current 10,500 square-foot structure dates to 1873 and some parts of the building are much older than that. The cost covers a restoration of the façade to its original appearance, a completely new first-floor lobby, a revamped club-style second floor theater, and a conversion of the third and fourth floors (which once housed the theater company’s offices as well as Stewart’s personal residence) into indoor and outdoor spaces for youth and community programming. A new elevator and other tweaks will make the building 100-percent compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act."

"...this particular block of East Fourth Street has found ways to defend itself against the dark arts of real estate investors."

2019 La MaMa Meet-Ups Scheduled!

Every season, La MaMa holds Meet-Ups for artists to meet with La MaMa Curators to talk and pitch ideas.  Each Meet-up lasts for 15 minutes and artists can bring work samples, or just chat with curators in the areas of: Theater, Dance, Visual Arts, Poetry, Kids Performance, Puppetry and Play Readings!

The next La MaMa Meet-Ups will be held on Wednesday, February 27 from 2pm - 4pm in the Ellen Stewart Theater at La MaMa.

La MaMa Alumni are Working (It) this January!

It's January and festival season here in New York and lots of La MaMa Alumni are working (it) all over the city.

Peter Mills Weiss (La MaMa Alum from 2015 with MAKE PEOPLE Parts 1 & 2) has created a new work with and Julia Mounsey.  Titled: [50/50] old school animation, the piece flirts with the horrific and dips into the surreal and is also  being performed as part of the 2019 Under The Radar Festival.

Jesse Freedman and  Meta-Phys Ed.’s THE TALMUD is a genre-bending performance that will premiere at The Exponential Festival at The Doxsee in Brooklyn.  Based on the Talmud and Kung-Fu films, THE TALMUD is about the transmission of ancient traditions and sacred wisdom across generations; from teacher to student and master to disciple.  Meta-Phys Ed was last seen at La MaMa with Jew vs. Malta in 2016.
