Mark Dommu speaks with Dane Terry in the current issue of Next Magazine. Dane talks about childhood, being weird and his neo-cabaret show at The Club @ La MaMa, Bird in the House, premiering April 17.
"I started writing songs about aliens, about America, about my father,
about where I came from. I come from hillbilly stock, and we love our
aliens—and the aliens tend to love us.”

NEXT Magazine's Mark Dommu interviews La MaMa Squirts curator Dan Fishback in the current issue:
"I came up in the bars and clubs—that’s my root. And I love a dirty stage
with a loud, drunk audience, partially because some of the best art
lives there. But I also love a proper theater, and tech that doesn’t
fuck up. I don’t see any competition between these places—quite the
opposite: Theater doesn’t function without a vital performance
underground, and the underground is elevated when its stars get to
explore the possibilities of theater. To me, this isn't about
“institutional approval,” it’s about serving artists by letting them
unfurl their wings."

John Russell talks to Max Steele about his solo show, Encourager, that will play The Club @ La MaMa on Saturday, September 28th at 10pm, as part of A SERIES OF ONE.
“I wanted to do something with no sets, no costumes, no props, no escape, no distractions, just feelings.” The resulting performance piece, Encourager, took the form of an ersatz self-help workshop hosted by Steele’s longtime alter ego, Billy Cheer. As he readied Encourager’s one-night-only engagement as part of La Mama E.T.C.’s A Series of One festival of solo works on September 28, we chatted with Steele about the piece, the need for encouragement and whether we should actually trust Billy Cheer’s advice.
