Herman Melville's Moby Dick was published on this date (November 14th) in 1851. A three-day marathon reading of the novel will take place at the Ace Hotel beginning today.
Mike Goreman's new play If Colorado Had An Ocean..., coming in December to The First Floor Theatre at La MaMa, riffs on the Mellville novel as it tells the story of two friends seeking to escape the confines of their construction jobs and achieve the state of grace they have each experienced in their part-time jobs as a commercial fisherman . The final play in his trilogy, Honor and Glory of Whaling, is a poetic drama that explores the punk roots of a commercial fisherman.
