Roberto Juarez @ La Galleria

Roberto Juarez has taken over La MaMa Galleria for a month where he has set up his studio and is making new work daily. The space itself is the site of his first NYC studio in 1981. Ellen Stewart allowed him to paint his first one man show in the studio for free.

Visitors will be invited to participate in an ongoing discussion and studio visit with the artist, breaking the passivity of the spectator and exploring the division between the realm of memory and the realm of experience, drawing on the past but situated in the present. Since 1981, Roberto has been active with solo & group, exhibitions, public artworks including: murals for public buildings, courthouses, and schools along with printmaking and guest teaching. The exhibition will draw upon his diverse combination of art making experiences into an open forum via studio visits and daily video posts.

On April 19th, at the end of the exhibition, there will be a closing reception with a showing of new paintings.  The reception will be from 6pm to 9pm.

In addition, daily videos of Robert at work will be created and posted online. Click here to view the videos.
